Delores Hope

It takes a very special style and grace for a classy and talented entertainer to step out of the spotlight herself and take on a supporting role in someone else’s successful career.

Dolores Reade Hope is less know for her successful singing career on the New York supper club circuit than she is for being Mrs. Bob Hope. Dolores left the supper club circuit to join her husband in his famous vaudeville act. Dolores married Bob Hope in 1934, and they adopted four children: Linda, Anthony, William Kelly and Honora. She exchanged her professional singing career for a role as mother, singing lullabies to her children. She also kept in good voice entertaining friends at parties.

In the late 1940s Dolores returned to the stage when she began helping her husband entertain U.S. troops around the world. In Vietnam, Christmas 1966, there wasn't a dry eye in the house when Dolores sang Silent Night. She sang to a hushed audience and when she finished she was treated to thunderous applause and a standing ovation.

Dolores continued to tour with Bob including the 1991 trip to Saudi Arabia during Operation Desert Storm. She was the only female entertainer allowed to perform in Saudi Arabia. Dolores has also made 18 guest appearances on Bob's NBC television specials over the years.

Dolores Reade Hope was born May 27th, 1909 and at the age of 84 she decided to cut her first CD entitled “Now and Then.” The album was such a success that Dolores followed it with "Somewhere In Time," songs of World War II, "Hopes for the Holidays" co-starring Bob, "That's Love" and "Young at Heart" which she dedicated to Bob. Her music spans the generations from the 1930s to today. She combines a 30s style with today's technology to produce a pop sound that is truly timeless.

"Isn't it wonderful that I can still sing at my age! God is good!" Dolores says.

Dolores Reade Hope is a devout Christian who gives her time and finances to more charitable causes than you can list on this page. A few of her favorites are the Hughen School for Severely Handicapped Crippled Children in Port Arthur, Texas where the Dolores Hope Library is located; St. Anne's Home in Los Angeles; the Holy Family Adoption Service and Childhelp USA. She has served on the Board of Directors of Mutual of Omaha and as a member of the Board of Overseers of the House Ear Institute. The achievements of the Eisenhower Medical Center in Palm Desert, California, are due directly to the untiring efforts of Dolores Hope, its founding president.

Dolores has dedicated most of her life to her husband, her family and her church and its ministries. Now her new recording career is in full blossom. As the world remembers Bob on his 100th birthday, we joyously celebrate this “blooming” Daughter of the King who is 94 years young this year!
