What kind of decree did you think a DOTK would make?
Remember Whose you Are
Finding one’s self was a major past time of the twentieth century. The fact is that we all know where we are; we are in a very hostile, confusing world. What we need to understand is who we are.
The first thing we do after meeting new people at any gathering is to ask them what they do. People almost always answer in the same fashion. I’m a doctor or I’m in sales. Proclaiming that you are a welder is like declaring that you are a fire hydrant: both are equally incorrect.
Sales may be what you do, but it is not who you are. Somewhere along the way, civilized people ceased to be human beings and became human doings. Contrary to the gospel of prime time television, our worth is not defined by our job or our accomplishments .
Whether they believe it or not, every person on planet Earth was designed and loved by God long before the creation of the Universe. Long term planning went into your creation eons before either of your biological parents were born. You were created in the very image and likeness of God.
God does not love you more when you work overtime. He is not impressed when you pass a test or get a promotion. He loves you because you are His. You are His design; His masterpiece. You are uniquely His. He loves you equally well when you succeed and when you fail. Mistakes and rebellion may separate you from God, but they don’t make Him love you any less.
God knows that you are only human. He knows you will mess up. Parents tell their children that Holy God sees and knows everything they do wrong. In actual fact, He knew all of your sins years before your birth. He knew every decision you would ever make before you did. Christ hung on the cross with you in mind. When you miss the mark, God is not the least bit surprised: He saw it coming and still He loves you.
He covered your sins before you even thought about them. You don’t have to work for His acceptance. All you have to do is believe in the work that He did on the cross all those years ago.
You are valuable because God believes you are valuable. You must be priceless because of the price He chose to pay for you.
You are a child of God. The Bible says that He has written your name on the palm of His own hand so that you will never slip His mind. It also says that He delights over you with singing.
Think of that the next time you look in the mirror and remember whose you are.
